Navy Chow - USS Carr - Dinner

Old pictures I was going through today. I thought they were pretty amazing.
The potatoes were good... they always had that good "cafeteria" style gravy.

Where did the cafeteria go in America? I really miss that type of dining.
If anyone has pictures of a cafeteria you like, please post 'em.

The picture below has a table in it with no table covering. Usually trays and cups would slide around if there wasn't a cloth on it. They usually had a rubber tablecloth so it made it easier for your trays and cups to stay put.

Sometimes you would eat with one hand and catch your neighbors tray with the other hand while they got up to get something to drink.

This was the legendary USS CARR cup to drink coffee from. It was legendary, because the one MA (master-at-arms) would get onto us for using them too much. They were supposed to be for the detainee's on board.
There were still plenty for everyone though. :)
The crew had to have something too darn it!

Sitting around having coffee was quite the thing to do. Even in foreign ports... we were out looking for wi-fi connections. Then we would order coffee and get online.... sad isn't it. ;) Although, there has been much sightseeing still accomplished.

Some guys would say if they had full wi-fi on the ship in the mess decks, they wouldn't even leave the ship when we pulled in. LOL.
